Sustainability Report

Several courses at Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Intan Lampung align with SDG 14, focusing on conserving aquatic ecosystems and promoting sustainable use of marine resources. The Ichthyology course delves into fish biology, classification, and ecology, equipping students with essential skills for conserving fish populations and managing aquatic ecosystems. Limnology further supports SDG 14 by exploring freshwater systems, such as lakes, rivers, and wetlands, where students learn to assess water quality and analyze ecological processes critical for sustainable freshwater resource management. Another relevant course, Environmental Pollution, addresses pollution causes and their impact on ecosystems, including marine and freshwater habitats. Through this course, students gain insights into strategies to mitigate pollution, which is vital for protecting aquatic environments. Similarly, Environmental Biology covers the intricate relationships between organisms and their surroundings, with a focus on biodiversity conservation, fostering an understanding of the importance of maintaining healthy marine and freshwater ecosystems. Lastly, Ecotourism emphasizes sustainable tourism practices that minimize environmental impact.

Coral Reef Transplantation by Maharipal Coral Enthusiast Students in Collaboration with Pokdarwis and Village Tourism Bumdes in Pahawang 2023

The Coral Reef Transplantation project by Maharipal Coral Enthusiast Students, in collaboration with Pokdarwis and the Village Tourism Bumdes in Pahawang, is a powerful initiative that directly supports SDG 14, Life Below Water. By transplanting coral reefs, these students and local partners are actively working to restore marine ecosystems, which play a crucial role in supporting biodiversity, providing habitats for marine species, and protecting coastlines from erosion. This project not only enhances the health of coral reefs, which are vital to oceanic life, but also fosters sustainable tourism that benefits the local community. Through this collaboration, the participants are contributing to the preservation of marine resources, promoting awareness about the importance of coral ecosystems, and taking tangible action to combat the degradation of underwater habitats.
